About the event
Sport and exercise-based research in sportswomen has not kept pace with the exponential rise in participation. This means that performance, training, nutrition guidelines are largely based on research in men.
It would be naïve to assume that all research in men can be directly applied to women, given the anatomical, physiological and endocrinological differences between the sexes. As such, sportswomen will benefit from sex-specific research and guidelines, which consider the effects of women’s physiology, such as the menstrual cycle. But, at the moment there is a gap in research related to the female athlete!
Join us for this FREE hour-long group session and learn more about the sex data gap in sport & exercise science research and what we can do about it from Emma Cowley.
Emma is a final year PhD Candidate in Liverpool John Moores University, whose research focuses on the development of a holistic exercise programme for teenage girls – ‘The HERizon Project’. Emma is passionate about equal access to healthcare and sport for women and girls and she hopes that her work can contribute to closing the gender data gap within this field. Emma has a keen interest in behaviour change research, resistance training and can be found most evenings watching ‘The Office’…
